2012 LIMITED
SPORTSMAN The Limited Sportsman Division combines two types of cars for exciting racing
at the Cleveland County Speedway. The class allows for more modifications to the
engines and suspensions of the vehicles than the Renegades Division. The A
Class cars are stock appearing American made, rear wheel drive automobiles.
The B Class cars are tubing chassis cars with a stock front snout.
A CLASS SPECIFIC RULES:
GENERAL:
Open to any stock appearing American car. Must be rear wheel drive only. No
trucks, jeeps, or station wagons.
BODY:
Must have complete front and rear firewalls and floor pan in steel only.
Firewalls do not have to be in stock location. Floor pan must be in stock location.
Rest of interior may be boxed in using steel or aluminum. Cars with boxed in
interior must have a 12 x 12 removable inspection panel to check enclosed area.
All interior panels must be sealed to prevent fire, oil, or fuel from entering cockpit.
Body must be in stock OEM location on frame and cannot be channeled over
frame. Body and chassis must be of same manufacturer. After market tail and
nose sections are allowed. After market bodies are allowed. Body can be fabricated
from steel or aluminum, but must retain original body lines. Cannot exceed stock
dimensions. Must run with hood at all times unless crash damage prevents it. Rear
spoiler is allowed, 6in. maximum height. Width cannot exceed top corners of the
quarter panels. Side spoilers are allowed and can be no larger than 6in. high and
12in. long, A 4in. debris deflector is allowed in front of driver. Uni-body cars may be
reinforced in critical areas including x-bracing in floor. Uni-body cars may use 2 x
3 x .095 tubing in rear to replace damaged OEM frame rails. New rails cannot
extend any farther forward than the front leaf spring mounts. May use frame ties.
All vehicles must run stock wheel base for type of car being raced, plus or minus
1in. All vehicles must have roll cage . CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION:
Steering must be stock type in OEM position, no rack and pinion. Steering
quickeners are allowed. All suspension mounting points, front and rear, must be
in stock OEM location except upper A frame mounts which may be moved.
Lower front A frames must be stock and unaltered. Upper A frames may be
tubular steel or modified stock. Front springs must be 5 inches minimum diameter
and may use threaded spacers or screw jacks. Shocks may be moved out board of
A frames. Rear springs must be 5 inches diameter minimum and may use screw
jacks. Rear trailing arms must be OEM stock and may be reinforced. Upper trailing
arms may be modified for pinion angle. Mono-ball type bushings allowed. All
springs must be in stock locations. Shocks may be any steel, nonadjustable type
only. Rear shocks may be moved. Leaf spring cars may use adjustable shackles.
Adjustable lowering blocks and sliders are not allowed. B CLASS SPECIFIC RULES
GENERAL:
Open to cars that use a tubing chassis with a stock front snout.
BODY:
101in. minimum wheel base. Bodies may be fabricated or may be after market,
but must be same make from nose to tail. Stock appearing nose and tail
sections must be used. Floor pan and front and rear firewalls must be fabricated
of steel. All other interior panels may be steel or aluminum and must be sealed
to prevent fire, oil, and fuel from entering cockpit. Hood must be run at all times
unless crash damage prevents it. Rear spoiler must be no higher than 6in. and can
be no wider than the width of the rear of the car. 6in. high x 12in. long side spoilers
can be used. A 4in. high debris deflector may be used in front of the driver. CHASSSIS AND SUSPENSION:
Stock front snout must use a stock lower A frame in the stock OEM position.
The upper A frame may be stock type or tubing and mounting position can be
changed. Shocks may be mounted outboard of the A frames. 5 inch minimum
diameter springs may be used and must remain in stock position. No coil-overs.
Steering must be factory type that came on front snout being used. Steering
quickeners are allowed. Rear suspension may be any stock type with the following
exceptions. No independent rear suspensions and no after market late model type 3
or 4 links. No coil-over springs and shocks or coil-over eliminators. 5 inch
minimum diameter springs may be used. Spring sliders may be used. No Reece
Bars, lift bars, or 5th arms. No shocks on top of rear end housing. Any leaf spring
can be used. Shock mounting is open. Any steel non-adjustable shock may be used.
Heavy duty ball joints and steering components are allowed. Leaf spring cars may
use adjustable lowering blocks, shackles, and sliders. Solid control arm 3 or 4
link rear suspension is allowed and may use one Quick Car #66-500 biscuit bar
with unmodified Red biscuits only. Control arms must be steel and may be
threaded with Heim joints. Must use a full length panhard bar, with a minimum
length of 32 in., measured from center to center of mounting holes. Panhard bar
must be mounted behind rear end housing. No "J" bars allowed. All suspension
mounting points on the chassis must be solid and non-moving. Leaf spring cars
may float one spring to rear end mount.
ALL OTHER RULES APPLY TO BOTH THE A AND B CLASS: ENGINE:
Engine can be small block Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler. Any bore and stroke is
allowed but cannot exceed 365 cubic inchs maximum. Blocks must be factory
steel OEM blocks. After market or Bowtie blocks are not allowed. A GM 602 crate
engine is allowed. It must meet factory specifications as delivered from GM. The
carburetor, exhaust and all other normal Limited Sportsman rules will apply. Any
602 equipped car will be allowed a 200 pound weight break and must have 602
in a minimum 4 inch number posted on both sides of the hood.
Engine Location: Engine allowed to be set back no further than #1 spark plug,
in line with upper ball joints.
Crankshaft and Rods: May be stock type steel or cast. 50 lbs. minimum for
steel, and 48 lbs. minimum for cast. Balancing of rotating assembly is allowed.
Rods may be any steel, no titanium. Pistons: May be any flat top. May be zero deck.
Heads: May be any OEM cast iron straight plug heads with a Ύ bowl blend. May
also use GM production Vortec Heads. World Products SR, SR Torquer or
Sportsman II. Dart Iron Eagle SS or Dart Iron Eagle Platnum up to a 200. All
heads must be straight plug. No porting, polishing, or grinding is allowed. All
ports must remain at factory shape and volume.
Maximum Valve sizes; Chevy - 2.020 intake, 1.600 exhaust.
Ford - 2.190 intake, 1.710 exhaust.
Chrysler - 2.020 intake, 1.625 exhaust.
No titanium valves. No hollow stem valves. Steel retainers only. Any steel valve
springs. Camshaft: May be any hydraulic or solid flat tappet cam. Lift and duration is
open. Roller Cams are not allowed. Any adjustable timing chain is allowed. No
gear drives or belt drives allowed. Stock lifter diameter only. Lifters with EDM
hole may be used
Oil Pan and Pickup: May be any steel wet sump pan and pickup. Remote oil
filters are allowed.
Cooling System: Racing radiators allowed.
Exhaust: Any 1 Ύ in. maximum primary tube, standard 4 into 1 collector header is
allowed. A maximum 24 in. long collector extension, including muffler may be
used. Extension is measured from the end of the header collector to the end of the
extension. No tri-y headers allowed. No coatings allowed. No merge collectors or
X pipes allowed. Intake Manifold: May be any single 4 barrel intake. Must be as cast, no
porting or port matching allowed.
Ignition: Must be stock type, HEI only. Digital type modules allowed. No multiple
spark systems allowed. No traction control. Carburetor: Must be Holley 600 part# 1850 or Holley 650 part # 4777.
Carburetors must be stock appearing. Choke flap may be removed. Up to a 1in.
spacer may be used. A 500 CFM Holley 2 barrel may also be used.
Air Cleaner; Any Type Allowed
Fuel Pump; May use mechanical or electric fuel pumps. Electric fuel pumps must
be equipped with an oil pressure cut off switch.
. DRIVELINE:
Rear end may be any stock type. Floaters are allowed. C clip eliminators are
allowed on GM rear ends, and are highly recommended. Any gear may be used.
Positive traction, or spool, or mini-spool is allowed. Wheel spin sensing
differentials are not allowed. Driveshaft may be any steel and must be painted
white. Front and rear safety loops are mandatory. No quick change rear ends
or wide five hubs. TRANSMISSION:
May be stock OEM, 3 or 4 speed, or automatic. Must retain all gears with
reverse. Automatic must retain working torque converter. Straight drive must
have single disc OEM type clutch and pressure plate. Clutch must be 10 ½ in.
diameter with full lining. No triple disc or direct drive clutches allowed.
Mechanical or hydraulic clutch release mechanisms may be used. Straight drive
flywheel must be OEM type steel and a minimum of 14 lbs. Blow proof bell
housings or scatter shields are mandatory. SFI approved flex plates are
mandatory on automatics. BRAKES:
Must be factory OEM style brakes, disc or drum. No after market or aluminum
calipers allowed. Brakes must work on all 4 wheels. Rotors cannot be cut or
lightened. Any pedals may be used. Brake bias adjusters are allowed. No brake
shut off valves allowed. WHEELS:
Any steel 15 x 8in. wheel, any offset allowed. Bead lock may be used on right
side only.
TIRES:
May use Goodyear G65 or Towel city recaps. Tires cannot be re-grooved, grooved. siped or
altered in any way. Tire softening agents of any kind are not allowed. Tires cannot
be screwed to the wheels in any way. WEIGHT:
"A" class cars must weigh 2800 lbs. minimum after race with driver. "B"
class cars must weigh 2900 lbs. minimum after race with driver. Proper car weight
must be displayed on both sides of the hood in a minimum of 3 in. numbers,
MANDATORY.
FUEL:
May use pump gas or 110 Race Gas. No performance additives of any kind will be
allowed. ANY ITEM NOT LISTED IN THESE RULES MUST BE APPROVED BY
THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR BEFORE COMPETITION OR IT IS
ILLEGAL.
